Tide of Ash
A vertical field of dense grain, in bluish grey and chalky white, asserts itself as a mineral skin. Light is caught in the stippling, between vibration and silence.
Curatorial text
A central band, dark and densely worked, rises like a narrow wall plane within a pale margin that acts as breathing space. The composition avoids emphatic gesture: the axis is sustained by a continuous verticality, with irregular edges that tremble slightly over the more serene, matte peripheral zone. This contrast between centre and sides turns the format into a kind of architectural “body”, at once compact and porous.
The palette concentrates on cool greys with a blue cast and chalky whites, modulated by small internal shadows that appear between the points and the veiled areas. There is no sharp division; rather, one senses accumulations—clouds of density that shift and open, leaving vents of pale tone. Light does not reflect; it settles: it remains in the particles and in the matte, generating a slow vibration.
In detail, the surface reveals meticulous stippling, like petrified foam, superimposed on dark glazes. Small fissures and vertical wrinkles interrupt the fabric of points and signal the work in layers: sedimentation, pressure and drying. The relief is low but constant, and the resulting skin transforms the painting into habitable matter, between wall and swell.
