In a narrow vertical format, the surface is built through a series of horizontal bands that overlap like successive flaps, ordering the gaze in an unhurried rhythm. The composition is interrupted halfway up by a more pronounced joint, acting as a hinge: above, the cadence is more regular; below, the curves of the edges heighten a sense of organic breathing.
The palette remains within a range of limestone greys and off-whites, worked with a fine stippling that recalls deposits of dust or saltpetre. This grain, uniform and matte, absorbs the light and avoids sheen, so that chiaroscuro arises mainly from the raised edges and the narrow shadows cast between layer and layer.
Two pairs of vertical marks, discreet and repeated, appear across several bands like a system of anchors or stitches; their regularity introduces a structural reading, almost of assembly. At the sides, warm lines emerge—very restrained ochres—betraying the edge of the cardboard and underscoring the material condition of the collage. A side view confirms a progressive relief, with moderate protrusions that turn the plane into a tactile, silent architecture.
