Strata in Calm

A serene rectangle unfolds, articulated by seven superimposed horizontal strips that project forward like successive eaves. Each band presents an irregular, lightly notched edge, and a gentle fall that reveals, on its reverse, a continuous penumbra. Framing the whole, a perimeter field of ash grey stabilises the composition as though it were an architectural stretcher holding the rhythm of the strata.

The palette remains within off-whites, mineral greys and a very discreet rosy-earth veil that appears beneath the light layer. Small dark specklings, almost like pores or grains, spatter the surface and activate close viewing, avoiding the neutrality of monochrome. The light, matte and diffuse, does not shine: it settles on the frontal planes and sharpens along the raised edges, where the relief traces a fine, persistent line of shadow.

The profile confirms a materiality built through folding and adhesion: the bands lift away from the support with a constant thickness, generating a moderate and regular depth. The texture, worked in layers, alternates smoothed areas and traces of brief gesture, such as scrapings and sweeps, turning the surface into a tactile skin—silent and slowly breathed.
